Chiropractoc Manhattan Beach Goes Over Natural Pain Relief

March 9th, 2010 by thedoc

Did you know that over the counter medicine such as Motrin, Tylenol, and Advil kill 16,000 to 23,000 people a year? That’s as much as AIDS!

I’d like to give you some good info on pain relief naturally by using…ICE!

The way you want to apply the ice is as follows:

  • Get a plastic bag
  • Place about 12 ice cubes in the bag
  • Apply it to the area of complain
  • Leave it directly on the skin for 20 minutes
  • Then leave it off for an hour
  • Repeat as necessary

You may feel that the area will get numb as well as red; that’s okay. It’s just vassal dilation, the blood rushing to the surface, cleaning out the waste products, bringing in nutrients for healing, and removing the swelling so pain will start subsiding.

This is a much safer alternative to pain relief. If you have any questions don’t hesitate in contacting me, Dr. Rob!

Chiropractor Manhatten Beach Goes Over The Fastest Way to Eliminate Pain Permanently

March 9th, 2010 by thedoc

Typically the traditional methods to eliminate symptoms are to use drugs, shots, pills, and even surgery.

For example, you have your Advil, your prescribed drugs, and cortisone shots. All are designed to specifically get rid of the symptoms the fastest possible way.

If that’s your objective, that’s okay. But, just treating the symptoms is the same as driving into a gas station because the oil light is on in your car. You approach the gas attendant and ask him to take care of the oil light because it’s bugging you. He sits down next to you, pulls out a spray paint can, and spray paints the light. He asks if you can see the light, you cannot, so he sends you on your way…

Same with drugs and surgery, they treat the symptom but not the cause.

Medically, they’ve come to the conclusion that if it’s a cure, they’ve eliminated the pain.

Our objective would be to look at the underlying problems that are causing the pain.

Look at, for example, FHP. FHP causes the head to go forward. The head weighs around 15 pounds; for each inch that it goes forward, the weight is multiplied by that amount; therefore, putting that amount of weight on your back.

For example, if the head goes forward four inches and you multiply it by 15, there are 60 pounds of pressure being constantly put on your neck, back, shoulders, and all the way down to your tailbone. It can also create symptoms like headaches, neck pain, arthritis, shoulder problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, and eventually can create rubbing and grinding on the discs, causing degenerative disc disease.

Our office is unique because we take x-rays to see how the person’s spine looks. We, then, develop specific types of spinal molding exercises with certain adjustments and apply them to the person to where over the course of time, the person will change. We then can take another x-ray to see the correction happening, ultimately taking care of the cause. By doing so, we can get at the cause, to where the pain wont come back.

Chiropractor Manhattan Beach Topic of the Day: Can Your Running Shoes Be The Cause Of Your Aches & Pains?

February 26th, 2010 by thedoc

Do you have foot pain, plantar fasciitis, knee pain, sciatic pain, low back pain?

Did you know that your running shoes can cause more harm for your structure than just walking barefoot.

The reason is because the foot is meant to put up with stress: the conditioning of walking and running.

The more protected the foot is, like in running shoes, the more deconditioning occurs.

What I recommend is that you introduce into your training walking barefoot on grass or on the beach, or you could pick up barefoot walking shoes. They’re called Five Fingers and they fit like a glove.

This will allow the right conditioning in your foot to develop. The foot is designed with arches like a suspension bridge. If support is placed in the middle of the arch, it actually weakens the bridge.

If you allow stress to be put along the apex of the suspension bridge, it disperses through the suspension to its strongest point. That is how the human foot works.

If you condition the foot, that will help all the way through the chain of the body.

Chiropractor Manhattan Beach Topic of the Day: The Foot

February 26th, 2010 by thedoc

Experts say one of the most detrimental things that have hit the human foot is the running shoe. As shown by a study in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, there is a 123% greater chance of injury with higher end shoes. Shoes that cost more than $95 had twice the injury rate than those that cost $40 and under. From recording running injuries from the 1970s onward, statistics show the advancements in shoe technology have not quite prevented foot injuries. Statistics actually show that the percentage of injuries to the achilles and plantar fasciitis remained the same. Furthermore, the British Journal of Sports Medicine stated that there is no scientific proof that shows the high-tec shoes are preventing injuries.

This wrong idea was based on the premise of the Runner’s Repair Manual, written by Dr. Murray Weisenfeld, a famous Sports podiatrist, that the human foot is not designed for walking let alone running long distances. George Shein, a writer for Runner’s World Magazine, agreed that the foot need protection from running. However, studies now show that the more protected the foot is in the higher end shoe, the less natural movement there is, therefore deconditioning the foot. The more deconditioned the foot, the higher the rate of injury.

In fact, lead athletes now prefer to run barefoot to condition the foot and prevent injuries.

Look at the design of the foot; it has arches. The arches are like little domes with suspension bridges. If you have a suspension bridge, and you place support in the arch, it becomes a weaker structure. The idea behind the suspension bridge is that you load it from the top and it disperses through the suspension. That is when it’s at its strongest point. That is how the human foot is.

We recommend you run or walk barefoot. Start adding that into your training sessions!
